DURING THE HURRICANE
You may have fluctuating supply because of heavy winds, or lose your power supply altogether during the hurricane. Here are some precautions you should take to protect life and property:
CANDLES
We strongly recommend that you use battery-powered flashlights and lamps if the power goes. However, if you must use candles or kerosene lamps, do not leave them unattended - keep them in safe holders and away from children and flammable material like curtains, paper and wood.
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
Turn off and unplug electrical equipment, especially sensitive electronics. Heavy winds and severe lightning can cause damage to your equipment.
EMERGENCY GENERATORS
If you are using a portable generator, plug appliances into the generator, using extension cords if necessary. Only a licensed electrician should attempt to connect a stand-by generator to the main electric panel of a home or business. For your safety, place the portable generator outside the house so the generator gets proper ventilation. Always turn off the generator when refueling.
