Under the existing tariff regime, JPS’ non-fuel rates are set by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) every 5 years. Within that 5-year period, JPS is allowed an annual adjustment to the non-fuel rates, to reflect the impact of inflation as well as expected improvements in the Company’s efficiency.

The 2012 inflation adjustment, resulted in an overall decrease of 1.4% in the electricity rates that JPS charges, effective July 1, 2012.

Rate 20 – GENERAL SERVICE

This rate is applicable to customers other than ential households with a demand profile less than 25 kilovolt-amperes (kVA):

  1. Charges are as follows:
    • Customer charge. This is a fixed charge whether there is consumption or not which is a contribution towards the cost of providing the service.
    • Energy Charge. This is the non-fuel costs that vary with consumption and is measured in kilowatt-hours (KWh).
    • Fuel and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Charge. This is the total cost of fuel that includes the cost of fuel for energy purchased from the IPPs that is required to produce and deliver for each kilowatt-hour of electricity. This charge depends on the energy utilization of your facility over the billing period.
    • Foreign Exchange Adjustment. All charges except the Fuel and IPP charges are subject to an adjustment depending on the movement of the Jamaican to US exchange rate.
  2. Metering will be via socket-type meters, at Secondary voltages as follows:
    • Single Phase - 110/220 Volts, 50 Hz,
    • Three Phase - 220 Volts, Delta, 50 Hz
    • Three Phase - 240/415 Volts, Wye (Star), 50 Hz

RATE 40 – LOW VOLTAGE

This rate is applicable to customers other than ential households with a demand profile greater than 25 kilovolt-amperes (kVA).

  1. Charges are as follows:
    • Customer charge – a fixed charge whether there is consumption or not which is a contribution towards the cost of providing the service.
    • Energy Charge – This is the non-fuel costs that vary with consumption and is measured in kilowatt-hours (KWh).
    • Demand Charge – Refers to the peak instantaneous power (lasting 15 minutes or longer) supplied to the metering point over the billing period and is measured in kilovolt Amperes (kVA). The applicable charge rate is applied to the highest value in a six-month window including the billing period.
    • Fuel and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Charge – is the total cost of fuel that includes the cost of fuel for energy purchased from the IPPs that is required to produce and deliver for each kilowatt-hour of electricity. This charge depends on the energy utilization of your facility over the billing period.
    • Foreign Exchange Adjustment - All charges except the Fuel and IPP charges are subject to an adjustment depending on the movement of the Jamaican to US exchange rate.
  2. Metering will be via socket-type meters or Three Phase meters, at Secondary voltages as follows:
    • Single Phase, 110/220 Volts, 50 Hz
    • Three Phase, 220 Volts, Delta, 50 Hz
    • Three Phase, 240/415 Volts, Wye (Star), 50 Hz
  3. Transformer Ownership: In this rate category, JPS owns the supply transformer and all metering is on the secondary of the supply transformer.

  2. Metering will be via Three Phase metering, at Primary voltages as follows:
    • Single Phase, 110/220 Volts, 50 Hz
    • Three Phase, 220 Volts, Delta, 50 Hz
    • Three Phase, 240/415 Volts, Wye (Star), 50 Hz

TIME OF USE RATES

The Time-of-Use facility was established to encourage large customers to move some of their operations to the off-peak or partial peak period to improve their load factor and realize savings, as well as reduce the demand for on-peak energy. Hence, rates for the off-peak and partial-peak periods are therefore lower.

The time-of use periods are as follows:

On-Peak Monday - Friday 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Partial-Peak Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Weekends and public holidays 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Off-Peak Monday – Friday 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
On weekends and public holidays all hours except 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.,
